I still remember the scene of the doctor who suggests Melody’s mommy to abandon her in an institute so that the parents can be free to fully live their existence without the burden of this disabled daughter. The Italian edition has a few typing mistakes, but the overall frame is extremely gripping. I read the Italian edition of this book and every page and chapter have been for me a touching experience of life. Draper is, in fact, the mommy of Wendy, a little girl with the same syndrome of Melody, and though Melody is not Wendy, the resemblance among the two girls is clearly evident. The realism of the character strikes, because Out of My Mindis based on a true story. You are trapped in your body, which is unable to do what you ask it to do! This is the cerebral palsy that imprisoned Melody. Try putting yourself into the shoes of Melody: your cerebral skills are normal, also your learning skills are normal, but you are unable to show them or say to your mother: “I love you”.

The description of this character is so outstanding that you can perceive all the intelligence of this girl against the silliness of the so-called “normal people”. Her brilliant intelligence does not fit with the stupidity of the external world. She learns fast and her mental reasoning is better than a scientist! Melody feels of being a fish out of water, just as depicted on the book cover. But she is capable of remembering dates, numbers, and events. She needs to be fed and dressed, because can’t perform these tasks alone. For doctors and teachers, in fact, Melody is an invisible person. Melody lives in a sort of golden cage, with sweet and loving parents and likewise loving neighbors, but, outside, the world is merciless, indifferent and cynical. She is a disabled little girl affected by cerebral palsy, a neurological condition that prevents children from moving and speaking, while their cognitive and behavioral skills are perfectly normal. Melody is the main character of the novel. I am 11 years old and I have never spoken”. The beginning of the book is strongly poignant and debuts with these words: ” Hi, I am Melody. The author is a former American Indie Writer: her name is Sharon M. It has never exited my mind, even though the title is Out of My Mind. It does not store any personal data. There are very few books that remain imprinted in your mind after you finish reading them. In the clips defence, Guy Lawrence of Disclosure says, “The video kind of created a sense of euphoria, and people were having a good time, connecting and going to a club,” but with the track being called Help Me Lose My Mind, do you really believe that no drugs were involved? Whichever way you look at it though, it does give you that sense of euphoria, of having fun and loving the people you’re with. Though it doesn’t actually show any drug use, it looks like a bunch of kids getting their fix in a club, whilst in love. The video, however, I think is a perfect example of how the song makes you feel. The video clip was released recently, for all of a few hours before executives at PRM records pulled the video amid complaints it glorified drug use. The track spins you around but without dizzying you up it’s chilled out but makes you want to dance at the same time.

Help Me Lose My Mind is disco, electronic, soul and pop all in one, with lush, ethereal dance beats skimming under London Grammar’s powerful and soaring music. On the fifth single from Disclosure’s debut album, Help Me Lose My Mind, Hannah Reid’s (of London Grammar) signature vocals soar over Disclosure’s hypnotic beats, making it one of those wonderful EDM tracks you can just lose yourself in. Whoever thought up the collaboration between Disclosure and London Grammar is a genius, because they might actually be the perfect partnership of modern day British music.
